Finland's President Alexander Stubb has called on Western countries to help Ukraine "as best they can" in its efforts to win the war against Russia.
"The situation on the ground is critical," Stubb said. "I call upon all of our western allies, those who support Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression and imperialism, to help out."
He also expressed hope that "as many countries from around the world as possible" would attend a peace forum scheduled to take place in Switzerland on 15-16 June which aims to secure a peace deal and an end to the conflict.
"It is a question of how we find a common path towards peace," he said.
Stubb made his comments at a press conference on Friday afternoon following a summit attended by other Nordic leaders as well as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
The meeting was hosted by Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, and also in attendance were Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Icelandic Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson.
According to a press release from the Finnish president's office, the agenda for the summit included Russia’s war of aggression, Nordic support for Ukraine as well as regional security issues.
The release added that Stubb would also hold a one-to-one meeting with Ukrainian president Zelensky.
"It must be made clear to a country like Russia and to a leader like Putin that aggression has consequences, and those consequences are that Ukraine is European, a member of the European Union and a member of Nato," Stubb said during Friday afternoon's press conference.
Aside from the summit, Zelensky was also in Stockholm to sign a bilateral security agreement with Sweden, as Swedish PM Kristersson promised additional military support for Ukraine for the next three years totalling about 6.5 billion euros.
