Finland's War Veterans' Association (Sotaveteraaniliitto in Finnish) is preparing to end its operations at the end of this year. The closure will be decided at the association's annual general meeting on 6 June in Lahti.

The association will hand over its tasks to the Tammenlehvän Perinneliitto, which is another association dedicated to supporting veterans of the Second World War.

Since its foundation in 1957, the War Veterans' Association has focused on supporting veterans' physical and mental wellbeing.

The Tammenlehvän Perinneliitto was founded in 2003. Named in honour of the oak leaf, a symbol associated with war veterans and one that adorns many of their graves, the association has 23 different member associations dedicated to different types of military and veteran support.

There are around 1,800 veterans of Finland's wars in 1939-45 still alive. Last year, a different veterans association for frontline veterans (Rintamavateraaniliitto in Finnish) ceased its own operations.
