Immigration helped increase Finland's population by around ten thousand to a total of 5,613,888, as of the end of May this year, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Finland.
The new figure reflects an overall population growth of 10,037 people during the first five months of the year, the number-crunching agency reported in a release on Tuesday.
"The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 17,682," Statistics Finland said in the release.
It noted that there were 6,266 fewer births than deaths during January to May. Earlier this month, the statistics agency reported there were fewer than one million children living in Finland.
The number of births last year was the lowest since Finland began keeping records in 1776.
