Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) will attend the Olympic Games in Paris from Thursday through Sunday. He is to attend events where Finnish athletes are competing, including judo and athletics.

Orpo will also visit members of the Finnish team at the Olympic Village and co-host a reception with the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Finnish Embassy in Paris.

On Monday, President Alexander Stubb returned from a five-day visit to Paris, where he was accompanied by his spouse, Suzanne Innes-Stubb. Over the weekend, Stubb spoke out against the participation of "neutral" Russian athletes in the Paris Games.

Last October, Orpo went to Paris for meeting with President Emmanuel Macron and then-Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.

Hunt for first medal is on

Finland has yet to win any medals at the Paris Games, which opened on Friday.

On Tuesday, Finland fields an equestrian dressage team at the Olympics for the first time since the Seoul Games of 1988. Five Finnish riders are competing in Paris, with Emma Kanerva first to compete in dressage at 3pm Finnish time. She and her horse Greek Air placed third in Group B.

On Tuesday archer Antti Tekoniemi – the first Finn to compete in Paris last week – was eliminated in the Men's Individual, losing by a score of 6-0 to Tai Yu-Hsuan of Taiwan (officially billed as "Chinese Taipei").

Noora Antikainen launched her Olympic career in the women's trap qualification on Tuesday morning, but ended up in last place in the first heat. The competition continues on Wednesday.

Swimmer Matti Mattsson, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, was hoping for an upgrade as he competed again in the same event, the men's 200 metre breaststroke. However he failed to qualify for the next round, placing 18th in the prelims with a time of 2:11.18.

Sailors Jakob Eklund, Ronja Grönblom and Veera Hokka are also competing on Tuesday afternoon on the Bay of Marseille. The latter pair placed fourth in the first race of the women's 49er FX class, with several more races to go.
