August will deliver a bumper crop of both berries and fruits, according to the Finnish Association of Fruit and Berry Growers.

The availability of raspberries, currants, gooseberries, and blueberries will be at its peak this month, with strawberries still available this late in the season.

“Berry pollination has been successful, and summer has provided the right amount of water and warmth. The current harvest outlook is quite promising, and the ripening fruit is of high quality,” said Tomi Pousi from the Association.

According to growers, the ripening berries are aromatic and flavorful, making it the perfect time to stock freezers with local varieties.

The association also noted that domestic apples are arriving unusually early this year due to a particularly hot spring. The first varieties will be ready to pick in early August in southern Finland. Despite some winter damage to the orchards, the apple harvest is expected to be fairly normal this year.
