Photo gallery — Northern Lights, meteor shower light up Finnish night sky

The weather conditions were perfect to view the combination of aurora activity and the Perseid meteor shower.

Stargazers were treated to a spectacular show in the skies over Finland on Monday night.

With the sky almost completely cloudless, conditions were perfect to view the Perseid meteor shower, an annual astronomical event that can lead to up to 60 shooting stars per hour being visible.

In addition, the aurora borealis — or Northern Lights — were particularly strong over Finland in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
