State rail operator VR has announced plans to close its restaurant operations and begin lay-off talks at its subsidiary Avecra, which manages the services.

The negotiations will affect eight of Avecra's brick-and-mortar restaurants in Helsinki, Tampere, Kerava, and Tikkurila. The measures are expected to lead to a reduction of up to 75 jobs.

Avecra employs around 400 people in Finland.

The changes will not affect onboard restaurant services or train staff, VR said in a press release. The rail operator said that it will continue to focus on its core operations in passenger and freight transport.
