Finland will see a mixed bag of weather conditions over this weekend, with snowfall, rain showers and spells of sunshine all on the horizon, according to Yle meteorologist Elias Paakkanen.
Up to 10 centimetres of snowfall is expected in the northern part of Finnish Lapland on Friday evening, which could make driving conditions in the region difficult.
The rest of the country will see sunny spells with scattered local showers on Friday evening and over the weekend, Paakkanen said.
Daytime temperatures on Saturday will range from 13 degrees Celsius along the southern coast to three degrees in Finnish Lapland.
There is also a very good chance of spotting the Northern Lights across Finland on both Friday and Saturday nights, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), as increased solar flare activity was observed on Wednesday and Thursday.
The FMI noted that Finnish skies will be mostly clear this weekend, making the conditions favourable for seeing the nighttime phenomenon.
A low pressure front is expected to move in from the west on Sunday, bringing rain showers to central areas and Finnish Lapland, where the precipitation could turn to sleet and snow in some areas.
In the south, warm southwesterly winds will see temperatures climb to an unseasonably warm 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday, Paakkanen added.
