Police in Espoo have launched a preliminary investigation into an accident involving a tram in the Keilaniemi district of the city on Friday afternoon.
According to Yle's information, the tram was coming to its final stop in Keilaniemi when it collided with a traffic barrier.
Four passengers were injured in the incident, but police did not comment on the extent of the injuries.
However, Detective Inspector Hannu Kontola told Yle that at least two of the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
"So far, all we know is that the tram collided with a barrier at the final stop and, according to the preliminary information we have, four passengers were injured," Kontola said.
Police are investigating the incident as suspected cases of endangerment of traffic safety as well as negligence causing injury.
Kontola said the tram driver is the suspect, adding that he was unsure whether the driver was injured in the incident.
Officials from the Safety Investigation Authority of Finland (Otkes) were also at the scene, according to Yle's information.
Johan Nykvist, head of Espoo's urban transport unit, told Yle that there were ten people aboard the tram at the time of the crash.
"We will investigate the incident thoroughly and go through all possible details to get an idea of how the chain of events occurred," he said.
