Unemployment continues to rise in Finland, according to new figures from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
The ministry said on Tuesday that Finland's unemployment rate was 8.7 percent.
In October, there were 285,200 unemployed jobseekers, an increase of 29,100 compared to October of 2023.
While unemployment is up, there are also fewer job vacancies. Last month saw 51,300 job openings, a drop of 50,700 from a year earlier.
Some 27,300 new job openings were posted in October, a decrease of 26,700 compared to last October.
In addition, a total of 32,400 people were furloughed as of the end of October, an increase of 3,000 from the year before.
The 8.7 percent unemployment rate, which is 1.1 percentage points higher than the previous year, is adjusted to remove the effects of seasonal variations on employment.
