Finland's Stubb thanks Biden for "excellent cooperation" as US presidency changes hands

In a post on X, Stubb thanked the outgoing US president for his "steadfast support" in Finland's Nato membership process.

Monday marks Inauguration Day in the United States, with president-elect Donald Trump being sworn in for a second term and President Joe Biden stepping down.

In a post on social media site X on Monday, Finnish President Alexander Stubb thanked outgoing President Joe Biden for what he called "excellent cooperation" between Finland and the US.

In his post, Stubb called the United States a close friend and key partner and he also thanked Biden for his "steadfast support" in Finland's Nato membership process.

Later on Monday, not long before Trump's inauguration ceremony, Stubb used X to congratulate Trump.

"I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you @realDonaldTrump as you assume office as the President of the United States," Stubb said in the post, which was published at 6:19 pm on Monday.

"The US is our key strategic partner and Ally. I look forward to close cooperation during your term," Stubb's post read.

Yle's coverage of the inauguration ceremony in Washington DC is set to start at 6:20 pm on Monday, Finnish time. The event will be broadcast on TV1 and on Yle's streaming service Areena.
