Finland goes to the polls this weekend to elect thousands of municipal and county councillors — but is turnout what it could be?
Foreign-background voters have been slower to head to the ballot boxes than the general population, and that could have a growing impact as the population diversifies.
We asked researcher Josefina Sipinen about Finland's democratic deficit — and especially the reluctance to get involved.
"There is this new dimension to it when the population is changing and becoming more and more diverse in this sense, and clearly it takes time for the system to adapt to this," said Sipinen.
Tariffs take their toll
With Donald Trump announcing trade tariffs on allies this week, the news agenda has been dominated by economic turmoil.
We took a look at the perspective of retail investors, who have been faced with tough choices on whether or not to cash out their portfolios.
Sari Lounasmeri from the Finnish Association for Share Promotion told us that it is a good time to check your targets and plans for your investments.
"It's a good time now to ask yourself if you're in it for the long haul or if you actually need cash in the short term," said Lounasmeri.
