On Saturday, people in areas around Helsinki enjoyed sunny weather with temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, but on Easter Sunday conditions turned decidedly cooler and wetter.

Skies in northern parts of the country should be clearer than in the south on Sunday, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

But according to the FMI's on-duty meteorologist Iiris Idoko, it will be rainy across many southern parts of Finland on Sunday.

"Cloud cover will be extensive on Sunday, preventing the sun from warming things up as it did. There will be quite heavy rainfall," Idoko told news service STT.

Flood warnings have been issued in some parts of Southwestern Finland and Kanta-Häme, particularly in low-lying areas and roads, according to the FMI.

According to Yle meteorologist Elina Suorsa, flooding is also possible on Sunday in southern areas of Satakunta, as well as in Western Uusimaa.

Temperatures in the rainy areas are expected to remain below 10 degrees on Sunday, while it may reach 12 degrees in central areas of the country. Further north, in the Oulu region, the temperature will also be below 10 degrees, while in northernmost parts of Lapland the daytime high temperature will most likely not exceed the freezing point.

On Easter Monday, local showers are expected in Southern Finland, while drier conditions are likely in store in other areas of the country. Temperatures are also expected to remain cool on Monday, according to the forecast.
