Nothing says “hurry the f*ck up Spring so we can be finally be done with this bloody winter!” quite like #Fiesta #Red.

PS: it might seem like “FSR” is an abbreviation for “Fiesta Red”, but it actually means “#FactorySpecialRun”. FSRs are usually limited batches of #guitars that have some feature or finish that sets them apart from the regular run intruments. This one is an FSR because is has a matching headstock. Also fiesta probably wasn’t a standard finish then so that probably contributes to its FSR-edness as well.

Fiesta red #AmericanVintage #Reissue ‘56 #MaryKaye #Stratocaster from the collection of my friend Peter, owner of a #guitarshop called #MojoMusic, near #Toronto.

#Fiesta #red? Mary Kaye? Impossible, you say? Well you’re right! Mary Kaye was an early endorser of the Stratocaster…and she played a distinctive #blonde '56 model with gold hardware. Although #Fender didn’t officially name the model after her, the name became colloquially associated with any blonde/gold #Strat.

So…this guitar started out as a Mary Kaye reissue, but has been #refinished in a lovely, non-pink, #fiestared.

I call this shot “back to the drawing board”. This is my recently completed #Custom #DeeBeeCaster®. I had originally wired it like a modern #American #Standard #Telecaster, basically because I removed (i.e. “stole”) the entire wiring #harness on my #fiesta #red Am Std. Then I decided to remove the purloined harness and replace it with a completely new harness which I then wired like the one I just removed…or so I thought… Until I realized that I somehow left the #tone knob out of the mix! So I have scrapped that attempt and am starting all over again from scratch using a wiring #diagram for a ‘66 #Tele I found in Dan #Erlewine’s book about guitar #repair. Wish me luck… :D

Yet ANOTHER shot of my newly completed #DeeBeeCaster®. But I have a story to go with it this time. Don’t change the channel just yet! I went to my friend Peter’s #Mojo #Music of #Oakville (near #Toronto) yesterday and picked up a couple of 250k #CTS...

Yet ANOTHER shot of my newly completed #DeeBeeCaster®. But I have a story to go with it this time. Don’t change the channel just yet!

I went to my friend Peter’s #Mojo #Music of #Oakville (near #Toronto) yesterday and picked up a couple of 250k #CTS #pots. Remember how I “harvested” the guts of my #fiesta #red #FSR #Telecaster to use in this guitar? Well the #volume pot didn’t have a linear taper, going from 0 to full blast in 1/8th of a turn!

So I removed the entire #harness…everything but the #pickups and jack plate…and wired a completely new harness with the new control plate, pots, a new 3 way #switch, cloth wiring, and an #Orange #Drop #capacitor. The harness I removed is going back into the fiesta #Tele today (I’ll change the crappy volume pot while I’m at it!) with a set of #Lollar pickups, also from Mojo http://www.mojomusic.ca
