Pansy watched as Astoria walked out of the leaky cauldron, her delicate hand nestled into the crook of Dracoâs elbow. She tried not to think about where those fingers had been the last time she saw the beautiful witch, failed, and downed the rest of her wine without drawing breath.
Tears pricked at the back of her eyelids as she slowly processed their announcement.
âWeâre engaged!â Astoria squealed at a pitch and volume that risked summoning every bat within a two mile radius.
Pansy supposed she should be proud of herself. She hadnât shown an ounce of the crushing rejection she had felt. She wasnât sure she had even blinked.
She also supposed she should have seen it coming. Astoria prioritised her societal aspirations above all else.
It still stung, but if Astoria was truly happy, Pansy could learn to be too. She wished her friends all the luck in the world.
Lay on her back, naked as the day she was born, a silk scarf tied over her eyes, Ginny had not felt so vulnerable in a long time.
She had learnt too young that vulnerability only let people take advantage of you.
Something soft stroked against her cheek, tickly as it brushed down her neck, chest and stomach making her squirm under its touch.
Ginny breathed through the urge to bolt from the room. She trusted Luna. Luna would never hurt her.
The trail of kisses followed the feather, added to the reassurance. And even as she wriggled more at Lunaâs attentions, Ginny felt more at peace than she had since the last time she had let someone in.
âMars is entering Gemini this evening,â Sybill said airily.
âYes, I saw on my star chart last night,â Aurora answered.
They were sat oh the parapet of the Astronomy Tower, Sybillâs head resting on Auroraâs, stargazing. It was both their favourite hobby, even if for two very different things.
âYou know what that means?â Sybill looked up, a Twinkle in the eyes.
âThat Mars is approximately and twenty one million kilometres from the earth at the moment.â Auror said deliberately dryly. She found it hard to resist winding Sybill up.
âWell, yes, maybe,â Sybill said, her mild resignation taking the edge off her mysticism.
Aurora decided to take pity on her. The might not always see eye to eye on the meanings and mysteries but that didnât mean they couldnât come together on plenty of other things.
âWhy donât you show me,â she said, slipping her arms around Sybillâs neck.

âIâm sorry â about the hair thing - earlierâ Tonks said as Fleur wrapped her, surprisingly strong, arms around Tonks waist, starting to kiss her between the words.
âIâm not used to having long hair really. The longest I normally have if is down to my ea-â
The last word muffled as Tonkâs Weird Sisters t-shirt went over her head.
âIâm not sure it looks good to be honest.â
Fleur backed Tonks up until she could feel the bed behind her knees, kissing down her neck across her shoulder and back to her collar bone.
âOn me I mean.â
A gentle nudge a Tonks was sitting on the bed, and Fleur was helping her out of her jeans and pants.
âIt looks beautiful on you. All of you is beautiful. Merlin I ââ
âShhhh,â Fleur said, straddling Tonks where she sat and pressing a long, delicate finger to Tonks lips.
âOh right, sorry I ââ
Tonks was cut off by another more forceful kiss. Her mouth opened at Fleurs encouragement and she let her words be swallowed.
Fleur pushed her backwards, then, when she was lying down, she slowly started to move down Tonkâs body until she was kneeling on the floor between her legs.
âOh.â
It was the only word Tonks could find for a while.
Hermione sniffed and wiped at her nose for the hundredth time since she had started writing her confession, looking down at the tear-streaked parchment now filled with smudged words and feelings she really wished she didnât have.
Her owl, Morgan, hopped down from her perch onto the desk, waiting for Hermione to tell her who it was going to.
Part of Hermione desperately wanted to send it. Desperately wanted to say out loud how much it hurt sometimes.
But it wouldnât achieve anything.
She touched her wand to the corner of letter and watched as the flames consumed it, occasionally flickering green as they went.
When Flitwick had paired Alice with Narcissa for their sixth-year project, he had simply hoped to dampen the fierce academic rivalry between the two witches. The feud had become so great that Narcissa had cursed all Aliceâs quills so that they refused to write a single truth, and in revenge, Alice had jinxed Narcissaâs ink to only be legible by Narcissa herself. Hermione pinches the bridge of her nose and lets out a long sigh, her patience wearing thin. âGinny, I donât knowââ âItâll be easy,â Ginny reassures her, eyes bright as she places both hands on Hermioneâs shoulders. âWeâll go on a few fake dates and pretend weâre in love to show Mum that I can find someone. Nothing to it.â Or, five times they pretend to be girlfriends and one time they donât.

It helped that Pansy accidentally blurted out what Draco had told her as soon as she laid eyes on Ginny, and Ginny laughed and replied with a âWell, Harry said, and I quote âSheâs really lovely, give her a chance,â so here I am.â
It was the night of the Yule ball, and Minerva watched as the students twirled around the Great Hall in all their finery, like jewels set into a spinning top, laughing as they went.
