Yk I was afraid I was gonna like this less watching this a second time. The first time I watched this I was in a theater on a Saturday night, with a bunch of great friends, having just watched Megalopolis. The 50th anniversary special hadn’t come out yet and I had all the hype in the world for it.

The movie was sexist, racist, bad at Latin, annoying philosophically (friggin Marcus Aurelius).
The dialogue was laughable. The movie was weird and weird and weird.
    And weird.
    Why was it so weird.
Why was the line “I like the name Sam, it’s to the point.”

Shia, your line was “no I don’t want to have sex with you, you’re my aunt.”

This movie made me, and I’m genuinely not exaggerating, feel every single emotion I think I’ve ever felt. Mostly anger and confusion (the main two human emotions)

“Which do you think was the best movie of 2024 about a visionary architect” - Luke about the brutalist

This movie had a gorgeous score, brilliant cinematography, and insanely good acting - for that I admire it. The pacing in the first half was also very solid.

My biggest critiques all end up boiling down to: when the movie takes itself too seriously it loses focus, comes off a bit pretentious, and the film suffers. Think the title cards for example or *that scene*

However when I see earnestness in this film,  it works.
