    Every rewatch of this film blows me away with the sheer level at which Hamaguchi manages to capture the realities of humanity, love and especially loss. Every aspect of the film builds towards this but most prominently the soundtrack and subtle performances really just ground the film in such a spectacular way.

    Obviously the vast majority of these minute long shorts are superficial and aren't able to build a clear or satisfying narrative/message but that is to be expected given the short run times. That being said they are without exception still all deeply entertaining when taken at their face value and showcase the phenomenal talent of some of the great names of Japanese animation and their respective range of styles.
