Apur Sansar 1959
4/5 for the trilogy as a whole.
While Pather Panchali is probably a masterpiece, the following two installments lack the urgency, tonal consistency and poetic vision that it had. Aparajito and Apur Sansur, though they start very well, both seem overburdened by their highly dramatic climaxes and drive for plot progression. Ray’s brilliance still shines though throughout the trilogy in countless subtle details and grace notes that makes for a very rewarding experience overall.Translated from by -
The Life of Oharu 1952
This was my third experience of Mizoguchi’s work and I can only think of him in superlatives.
Vast emotional landscapes are drawn so eloquently with minimal strokes of gestures, postures and distance. Oharu’s tragedy is made so palpable with a refined sensibility that expands it way beyond the realm of melodrama to that of perennial sadness, which only such a noble artistry could evoke.

أظن الفلم ممكن يكون مدخل ممتاز لسينما كيشلوڤسكي. كثير من الأدوات والمواضيع اللي تحضر في روائعه اللاحقة موجودة بشكل مكثف هنا..
ثيمة القدر والصدفة والاحتمالات.. استخدام أشكال من التناظر في بناء الهيكل العام للعمل (ثلاث احتمالات، ثلاث ألوان، ١٠ وصايا، شخصية مزدوجة).. الإشارات والتلميحات اللي تربط بين مختلف خطوط السرد.. الاستخدام المقتصد الموسيقى بغرض الربط بين المشاهد.. البعد الروحاني بدون ما يكون بالضرورة ديني... وكثير غيرها
مونتاج الفلاشباك في الافتتاحية يدرّس.. والتصوير والتمثيل عمومًا رائعين… -
