Not my favorite Godzilla movie, but probably the one I've seen most. The Americanized version was on repeat when I was growing up.
I love the somber tone of "The Return of Godzilla," especially the music. There's a sadness that runs throughout, and it marks a nice change from the catoony tone of most of the Showa era films.
The suit is good. Again, not my favorite. I think Godzilla looks good in profile, but doofy head-on.
Horror westerns, like musical sci-fi epics and Christian pornos, are one of those genre mashups so rare, I'm inclined to enjoy whatever comes my way.
Thankfully, "Bone Tomahawk" stands on its own merits. It takes its time, establishes its characters, showcases plenty of Kurt Russell's amazing mustache, gives Richard Jenkins plenty of time to steal the show, lets the viewer enjoy the journey across a desolate west, then climaxes with a bunch of horrific, stomach-churning stuff. Don't watch it while eating.
Not nearly as much goofy fun as its predecessor, HARD TICKET TO HAWAII, but still a blast, especially once Sidaris wraps up the introductions to all 75 characters and their various plot threads and gets to blowing up vehicle after vehicle after poor, defenseless vehicle.
