Sure sex is great, but have you ever been so terrified of female sexuality that you create a psychogenic fugue state/phantasmic ourobourous in which you act out a noir fantasia of carnality and VERTIGO tropes before collapsing into the realization that you’re actually OJ Simpson?

An epic sweat-sheened and neon-hummed and cocaine-decored exploration of Why We Like To Watch. A monolithic (but essential and breathless and deeply horny) three hours, it's like the LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF of fuck-noir, in which erotic thriller creatives and film scholars and general perverts come together to trace an arc from films noir to thrillers erotic, and celebrating/interrogating everything in between.

(Full disclosure, I’m in this thing, talking about noir and De Palma and BASIC INSTINCT and stuff)

“You're not one of those ‘intent on the truth’ types, are you?”

“Well, not religious about it, no, but I…”

A film where the ellipsis speaks louder than words.

If not the best Argento film (though it might be??), then certainly the most Argento film—every aspect of genre fetishism and the director’s tics/ obsessions are dialed to a self-aware “11” of black leather and red herrings, synesthete hyper-color and bloodied ultra-violence, Grand Guignol setpieces and, well, operatic grandeur.

A heavy metal opus of pure cinema.

PS: absolutely no surprise that the film was woozily and wildly shot by PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE’s camera operator Ronnie Taylor.

Well this certainly was the 11th entry in a horror film franchise.

I have a feelin tonight’s gonna get pretty dark.”

    “Isn’t that what nights do?”

Saulnier’s first blood and last stand. See it with a crowd if you can.
