Great looking movie, from the glamorous locations of Los Angeles to even the rough and rural scenes, theres not a frame that doesnt look er, frameable.
Tuesday Weld styled as Joan Didion looks like an intellectual Brigitte Bardot which really is the height of chic even in 2025.
The whole movie could have been put in an Apartmento Magazine spread which I would personally rather read though then sit through the film itself again.

Was there Oscar Bait before the 90s? If not this surely is a great proto example, very of its time and not in way thats interesting.

Not sure I can recommend this beyond one very cool aerial shot and fans of Montgomery Clift-who I will say really cant be overrated. He just blows everyone out the water in terms of their very old fashion acting and his mastery of a genuine naturalism. The exception is Burt Lancaster whos also quite wonderful playing against his usual type and is um, incredibly stunning to look at especially in a pair of tiny swim trunks.

One of the biggest narrative dissidences is using AI for the architectural drawings at the end-not only it is in a repugnant cheat, but it flies in the entire of…

Moments into this movie it lets you know you are in for a wonderful, heartbreaking, and visually stunning wild ride. From Martin Landau's shattering performance as a vulnerable Bela Lugosi, gorgeous cinematography by Stefan Czapsky and Johnny Depp at one of his many career peaks before his self inflicted decline.
A tightly executed script keeps everything moving, balanced, and never losing sight of the overall narrative.

It will forever crack me up that Johnny Depp doing a Ronald Reagan impersonation…
