  I feel like I reviewed this before - God knows I've watched it enough. It's one of my favorite brainy action flicks and I'll always sit down and finish it if I come in partway through. In this case I got a youtube recommendation of a clip showing the border crossing sequence, which I will DEFINITELY sit down and watch at any time. Absolute masterclass in establishing a complex action set piece and showing the situation develop without resorting to shaky-cam antics or editing chicanery.

  Haven't seen this in more than a decade but it still holds up - indeed, rewatching it now I'm aware of how deeply in debt the recent crop of synthwave noir ("Drive", "Atomic Blonde", "Baby Driver") is to this film. Though in today's cynical screenwriting vocabulary, Marco would have double-crossed her; fortunately for us, in Besson's world sometimes wholesome nice guys really do exist.

  My capsule review is that it's astonishingly well-made but left me wondering "why?"
