there’s a scene around the 45 minute mark that is so shocking and upsetting that I nearly turned it off which ultimately speaks to Lynch’s ability to evoke visceral feelings through his filmmaking. this script in less capable hands would have turned this into a campy melodrama but Lynch’s touch molds it into an undeniable art piece.

leave it to bong to adapt an absolutely wild story - I continue to be in awe of his masterful work behind the camera. a lot worked for me, a lot didn’t. social commentary couldn’t have been have been more heavy handed - a little too prescient for the current moment unfortunately. ultimately a fun theater watch.
