Mother 2009
An overprotective mother takes care of her mentally disabled son in what initially seems to be potentially a zany, screwball dark comedy quickly descends into a murder mystery and a horror movie that reveal secrets and truths about the characters. The movie built and weaved tension pretty well as the movie progressed, but a jarring shift in tones threw me off and was rather unsettling. The mom dancing to an upbeat modern song in the beginning was a fun way to start the movie.

The Elephant Man 1980
A fascinating, riveting story about a doctor who treats and befriends a young man with severe deformities and health problems whom also sometimes faces discrimination and harsh treatment from people, as some try to exploit him for personal gain. A strong character-piece, but slow moving at times, and a solid film overall. Strong performances from Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt.
