There's something really disturbing about the family. Any family. And this comes to the fore in Zulawski's movie, which instead of a clear-cut thesis or safe, recognizable arcs gives their two main characters (or are there more of them?) their own versions of hell within their domestic setting. The son isn't spared, either, or the world, for that matter.
