This is one of those classics that I had somehow missed. So glad I finally got to see it. The characters and dialogue were fantastic, the blend of comedy and horror was perfectly balanced, and the practical effects were mind blowing. Seriously, no CGI werewolf transformation can top this classic. Amazing.
I absolutely loved it, especially having spent my formative years as a dancer. The dancing was really great, and I loved the steady build to the supernatural elements. There were several scenes that were beautifully grotesque in all the best ways for an arty horror film. I didn’t quite grasp the purpose of the background story of the Luftunsa terrorist attack, I guess to anchor it in the historical timeline? I also felt like I didn’t quite get what happened in the climatic scene, but it was so wonderfully chaotic and gorey I honestly didn’t care. It just made me want to watch it again.
I would categorize this film as horror/comedy, which is one of my favorite genres. It was a lot of fun, although probably in the grand scheme of things, forgettable. I was so relieved when the main character, Grace, finally got dirty. I was really wondering how long she could be in peril still looking like she could be the cover model for Bride Magazine. Bloody, but not crazy gorey, there were some creative deaths and the characters were fun.
