Dissolution 2010
Fastest paced film in the Nina Menkes canon!
Even with a male protagonist we still get fantastic views of feminine rage!
Some thematic callbacks (horses, fish ring) making me feel happily immersed in Menkes-verse.
Imagine being a woman minding your own in the Israeli lounge with psytrance blasting, only to have a strange man tell you about his murder “dream.” I found this scene rather silly. In fact, all the club/lounge scenes were funny. Very purgatorial, nobody having anything relevant or meaningful to say, everyone just passing through their own existence. Are we to believe the main character himself is already a ghost?

Happy Together 1997
Intoxicated men in a toxic relationship being intoxicating - a complete claustrophobic feeling for a film that spans a continents and cultures.
From the color choices to the stylized credit sequence to the strategic slow mo, Happy Together gives everything visually where it cannot be uttered aloud.
