I expected wall-to-wall awesome stop-motion animation, but instead seventy-plus minutes of the ninety-minute runtime is basically a 90s TV movie. The white yeti with the big nose and the huge lizard on the poster are not even in the final film. It does have a certain, cheap charm, though.
Garbage. Went in wanting to like this, because the bad-faith disdain for Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt has always felt like a reflex than a critique (She’s a young starlet with better things to do than cater to movie dorks, and he is simply great). Plus, I thought, even if you phone it in, a robot apocalypse movie should at least clear the “dumb fun” bar.
Well, this thing doesn’t even limbo under it.
That said, there is a shot of an exasperated French waiter bot losing its mind and blurting out “Zut Alors!”—which I did find amusing.
