Mickey 17 2025
I was very much into the first hour or so (filled with energy, wicked humor, and tension/interstellar intrigue), but its blend of dark political satire and existential sadness ultimately fell flat for me, especially as all potential for black humor-inflected slapstick and (odd, horrific, sensual) hijinks /conflict involving the doubles/multiples seemed to me quite squandered. The send-up of and (totally just!) critical stabs at Trumpism and its relatives were so insufferably on-the-nose, and dominated so much of the running time…

Not my favorite Mastorakis by a long shot, but still an interesting, trashy, sometimes unsettling early 00s experiment in melding cyberspace with the cinematic; Hitchcock-meets-CSI-meets-“Dangertainment” (Halloween: Resurrection did come out only a year after this in 2002, so would make a killer - and at times difficult - double feature).
