  Liked: the love story, naomi ackie, mickey 18, toni collette, the selfish character growing a conscience and sacrificing themselves arc, the tardigrades

  disliked: some of the pacing, the trump analog (I have to see him enough on the news...), the okja vibe, the "perfect victims," the heavy-handedness, monologues 

  grew on me: robert pattinson doing a silly voice, mickey 17, mark ruffalo

  Shailene doing her best w terrible dialogue... kind of went sideways in the third act but gripping throughout the middle! extra star for entertainment value

  adapting a living persons traumatic life story for clout and profit without asking them for permission  is always beyond wrong but the audacity and sick irony of doing it with this story, in this way is so.... Something! do the filmmakers see themselves in natalie portmans character? lmfao.

  So sweet, heartfelt, and genuine. The emotional peaks of this movie (the real women, the mother daughter memories, people-watching on the bench) struck such a chord with me.

  On the flip side, there were a few parts of this movie that fell a tiny bit flat-- namely, America Ferrera's big monologue at the end. Chronically online people's (my) complaint is that it was soo 2016 brand tumblr feminism 101. It is... but it had to be palatable to a large…
