We are often hung up on why things happen, unable to sleep at night pondering on the reason things happened the way they did. Papa is a wonderful movie that lies heavy on the audiences’ hearts, but so beautifully performed and well delivered.
During the Q&A the director mentioned that he wanted to stress on the “ambiguity of the truth”. For viewers who usually leave asking “why” what happened happened in a movie, for Papa, just let the emotions flow, and start counting 1, 2, 3…
p.s. be prepared to cry
Slow, preachy, long scenes that stick to a single camera angle. The topic itself was interesting, wasted on trying too hard to be symbolic with a couple’s relationship // japan and korea. I tried my best to focus but really just lost it after the first 30 minutes.
