Life is too short for half stars.
VHS Villager
Okay I get it now. Watched the Final Cut this time, pretty sure it’s not what I watched the first time?
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Watched with the kids, so of course they were up until 10 and didn’t fall asleep because it’s too good. Pandemic parenting y’all!
This was my third viewing: first in college (thanks for exposing me, Eric!), then again a few years ago, and now. It’s such a rich story and what struck me this time is Ashitaka’s journey of himself: recognizing his demonic power, helping to overcome it (and warning enemies even), and ultimately forgiving Lady Eboshi in the process…
Maybe my fifth time watching? But my first on Groundhog Day and my first during a worldwide pandemic where I’m staying home indefinitely. Sure hits home.
It struck me that he spent some time learning piano and a new language, which are also my favorite solo mental hobbies.
And also how is he late when he sprints through everything and early when he stops for coffee? Will look into that.
Anyway, I think it’s gotta be at least 10 years. Whoa.
