SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)

    ★★★★

the sort of film that reminds you of why you became besotted with music in the first place.

    Chaos: The Manson Murders

If it wasn't made by Erroll Morris I probably wouldn't have watched it. The archive footage is always grimly fascinating, but the conspiracy element feels tacked on and under examined.

Just been to see 'All of us Strangers' and I think it may have broken (and perhaps fixed) something in me.
Everything about it felt just right, the relationship's, the depiction of London, the music, the way they managed to capture the 1987ness of 1987, and the feeling of loss, grief, and recollection that bereavement brings.

I can't remember the last time I've seen pop music used in a film with such a devastating emotional effect (maybe ever), every choice on the soundtrack felt like a high, a hug, or a gut punch.

It's such a beautiful, thoughtful piece of art.

    ★★★

Entertaining in a grubby late 70s early 80s sort of way. Daltrey is better than the average pop star turned actor in the title role. File alongside the two (original) Sweeney films.
