An undeniably bad movie, but bad in a nostalgic way I couldn't help but enjoy a little. Venom 3 feels like a dumb but fun movie your family would have rented from Blockbuster in 2004. It's the kind of bad movie they don't really make anymore. For all its myriad flaws I'll take it in a second over most modern MCU entries where you have to watch 27 previous movies and 4 miniseries to understand what's going on and everyone is still using the same bad one liner humour that stopped being funny almost a decade ago.

This would have been so good if not for the novelty point of view thing. It's a shame because it was a good story and the movie otherwise looked fantastic. The first person POV was just kind of off-putting and made it harder to connect to the protagonist. I think Nickel Boys could have been a modern classic if it had normal POV and they cut out the flash forward stuff (or maybe saved some of it for a brief epilogue).

It's no doubt a highlight of its decade. Heat features a killer cast even without the two leads - Henry Rollins was a great touch - but casting crime legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro to go toe-to-toe in their mid-career peaks is…
