Of all the Transformers movies I’ve seen, and I *think* I’ve seen them all this is far from the worst. That’s reserved for one of the last couple of Michael Bay movies.
Still, I can’t quite figure out who this is for or why it was released.
Is it a total reboot of the franchise for a new generation?
An animated origin story for the Bay series which has already had a soft reboot?

Hollywood forgets sometimes that genre films can actually be about something, and first and foremost they need to be about characters. Characters we care about. Characters we worry about. Characters we’d like to spend real time with.
Takashi Yamazaki hasn’t forgotten this, and he uses the canvas and the set pieces of a film franchise that has been stretched to incredulity and back to deliver an emotionally powerful melodrama that legitimately left me weeping at the end.
