  Cusak's portrayal of Poe was unbearably irritating, and it's very much his movie. He's on screen yelling or whispering for the entire runtime.

  I'm a sucker for serial killers with a strong theme and I have no one to blame but myself.

  You should watch this movie with appropriate expectations:

  The characters: Mundane, interchangeable, forgettable.

  The plot: The faintest suggestion. If we're being generous, we could call it "dream logic", in other words, a handy excuse to subject these characters to goopy gorey torments.

  The setting: evocative and stylish.

  The soundtrack: As the young folks say, it slaps. It's like a spooky 70s porno.

  The gore: The entire reason you should watch this movie. So much face melting, so much eyeball destruction. It was great.
