    The Wailing

    ★★★★½

The Wailing starts with a quote from the New Testament:

"They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” - Luke 24:37-39

Slow, creeping vibes, good performances, and amazing sound production. Yes, not a lot happens, and we never get any info about the nature of the disease, but the dynamics between the two families, living in one house, carried enough tension to get the movie by.

I was expecting bat shit insanity, but this exceeded all expectations. One of the most violent, gory, and funny movies I've seen in some time. The filmmakers knew what kind of movie they were making, and every five minutes they just kept topping themselves.

    An instant favorite.

This was one of the most frightening, mind-bending horror films I’ve seen.  It felt like watching Suspiria or Videodrome for the first time, a sensory and emotional experience I was not prepared for.  The visuals, the score, the editing, were all incredibly creative, and the tension kept ratcheting up until the finale.  I never knew where the story was going because of a persistent sense that anything is possible, that nothing is out of bounds.

A brilliantly executed horror masterpiece.  Cannot be recommended too highly.
