When she caught the fly with her chopsticks I knew this movie was a complete goner. The inaccurate calligraphy wanted to make me cry, and this is coming from someone with Chinese as their second language.

I rescind my previous review… the more I think about this movie, the more flaws I see 🙃
Yes, the emotional beats were there - but they were not earned in my opinion. The narrative didn’t build up properly. As a consequence, those big, emotional hits didn’t deserve to be there. Like it was sad / touching for the sake of it, and not because the story called for it. It cheapens the whole experience in retrospect.
