All Quiet on the Western Front 2022
This is one of the best films this year and probably my favourite war film. Each character and relationship feels real, each shot is perfect, the soundtrack is phenomenal. I thought this started off as a comfort film but by the end it was clearly the exact opposite. Incredibly detailed sets, writing and costumes easily placed me into the early 20th century Ireland setting. The desolation of the island is perfectly shown in large empty shots. As well the constant dull grey weather also adds to this sense of loneliness and emptiness. The plot seems childish which perfectly contrasts to the dark turns the film takes through its runtime.…
