  Beautiful tribute to an artist who deserves far more love. It would have been beautiful to hear or see more of Syd today, as well as his impacts across genre and cultures. A true rockstar.

  First and foremost this film is gorgeous. Beyond its beauty is a message worth contending with. And Ava brings us the message through a love story, a story about family, about grief and finding once’s voice. This work isn’t preachy, the message isn’t told to us, rather shown and lived. 

  Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is the perfect conduit, her performance speaks to the soul. And the score! And the editing! At its core this film is good storytelling and the most effective way to tell Isabel Wilkerson’s journey to writing Caste. My favorite Duvernay thus far.
