I actually likes this a lot better than I thought I was going to, the songs, the acting, history…but I am still confused by his character in a way that feels unsatisfying
All I can really think to say is what a bizarre fucking feeling it was to watch the people around me get up from this movie, laugh and smile in discomfort, look awkwardly at each other, nod toward the door

I spent most of the movie searching for something that would surprise me. The narrative seems rather trivial at first — about as simple as the little girl in Chapter 1 who runs from her mother just to show that she can. All the vignettes that follow appear to rehash the same point; the constant talk of motherhood, family, abandonment, cheating, generational conflict makes you think that this is really the crux of the story: who is Julie and which path…
Wow, I came at this very skeptically, but that was something else. I thought it would be derivative and sentimental, and I was so so wrong.
Pretty quickly into this movie, I began feeling intense guilt that I was enjoying it so much. My inner adult started asking, "Isn't what you're seeing really irresponsible, unfair and wrong?" For me, the only honest answer is yes, and not only that, but taking pleasure in others' hardship seems pretty exploitative, too. And…
