Limbo 2023
Too serious for its own good. Usually love detective flicks, I just felt disconnected from the protagonist. The rack focus on the fence was funny. Digital drone footage is funny. I can see myself getting nitpicky. All i'm tryna say is- playing it safe is worse than even playing at all or take a page out of Brick's book and have a little more fun with it. I do think it’s cool something like this got a theatrical release in a different country, I mean that's the dream right?

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio 2022
A dusty storybook came to life. The animation- with its fingerprints and uncanny textures, is some of the most emotional I've seen. Antique-like, yet timeless. It’s nice to see animated films having dark themes and trauma. I like that geppetto gets drunk and angrily hacks together a sentient wood creature out of the tree above his blown up son's grave. The physical puppets and sets- the realness, is all very intimate. Watching this film feels like being on a fantasyland…
