This is one of the movies I brought to my wife's apartment when we first started dating and is officially the first movie we ever watched together.

The best Brian McKnight movie ever made is a recreation of blaxploitation cinematic history in the most perfect way possible. The talent to deliver every accidental moment intentionally is superb. Its brisk runtime avoids sidetracking and overusing bits and Michael Jai White lends his fighting expertise and tough guy deadpan skills to the…

I still remember my folks renting this and it being the first double-vhs I had ever seen.

This viewing, I was moved most by Angela Bassett's performance. Malcolm and Betty's relationship is so nuanced and Lee captures it so perfectly, but I can't think of anyone other than Bassett and Denzel that could play those roles better. 3 very distinct acts and phases of Malcolm's life - the hustler, the hustled, and the enlightened & content. I think Lee introduces a…

Capitalism, hubris, and Billy Zane are the villains.

It's been well over 25 years since I watched this and while I didn't love it back then, it has some choices that I don't recall noticing: Paxton's gold pirate earring, Leo's constant playful acting, and the music as people plummet to their deaths. Cameron seems to have refused any editor notes - as I don't think this has any business being as long as it is. Leo's performance is pretty rough,…

Absurdly colorful and in your face. Mary Elizabeth Winstead seems like a natural in this action role and really brings way more than she needed to. Loved the fight choreography and the music and while the dramatic elements weren't great, they supplied a break. A great popcorn movie, with some tremendous action and effects, but may have bitten off more than it should have.

Now with 100% less whitewashing than 1993's Alive. This also holds the record for the most I've cried during any movie.

Emotional, intense, and appropriately graphic. I was bought into every aspect, scene, character, and feeling conveyed by J.A. Bayona. Absolutely gorgeous landscapes juxtapose the brutal story but are balanced with tight and intimate shots that are so immersive. Every performance is near perfect and the pacing is excellent. I'm envious of those who saw this in theaters, but wouldn't have loved ugly crying in public.

Kicking into a new level of "old man" with my movie watching and using headphones connected to the TV.

Starts with one of the greatest openings of a movie and keeps you engaged. Godzilla Minus One hits every emotion, real human interactions, survivor's guilt, anxiety of the inevitable, and redemption. The visuals are insane for the budget and this team deserved the Oscar for it and much more work to come, I'm sure, in their future. The drama is palpable…
