This is the first Herzog film I've seen that just didn't work for me. It's not a total bust—Michael Shannon is pretty decent, and there are some great shots of the Salar de Uyuni salt flats. Unfortunately, the story feels very plodding, and the characters, aside from Shannon's, are woodenly acted and poorly defined.

The first act of this is one of the most white-knuckle and unsettling things I've seen in a while. Something about the uncanny, sweaty puppets mixed with a 2000s-esque grimy thriller makes for a truly uncomfortable experience.

Unfortunately, the second act falters, and it goes a bit too hard into trying to be shocking, which keeps it from getting a higher rating. Even still, I did really enjoy the story in this and found it super interesting from a filmmaking perspective. Also the voice cast in this is top notch, always wonderful to hear Sid Haig and Robert England again.

Extremely creative and filled with some great performances but it does feel slightly less put together than Bong's other movies. Even still this is 100% worth a watch.
Also I want to pet the lil creeper dude, he rules.

It took like two decades but Eli Roth finally made a good movie. I am very proud of him. It's like when your fuck up, stoner son gets a B- on his math test, you didn't know he had it in him.

Gotta give The Carver a W for feeding Tim Dillion's Cat. That was sweet of the guy.
