Not terrible, but not good either. It felt like the film was trying too hard to be cool, inclusive, sex-progressive, new sexuality… the other stuff.
It lacks harmony. It’s a weirdly colored borscht. On a molecular level, I get the message, but I’d be lying if I said this idea was clearly conveyed on screen.

    And what’s with that pacing?

It’s not what I expected it to be. But then again, what did I expect from exhausted ex-Soviet leader? Slow paced and intimate. Listening to Gorbachev is like listening to your grandpa — you want him to answer interesting questions about USSR, but instead of answering, he just randomly starts singing a song from his youth.

maybe my hopes were too high for this one,
maybe it’s yet another proof that men still don’t understand how to portray emotionally unavailable women, or maybe the second part of the film was just weak.

i enjoyed the first part, tho. it felt millennially, it felt relatable, it was promising. the second part? lost me. it was supposed to be less about men and more about Julie herself.
