They don't make those kind of big-budget, major studio dramas anymore - now it's either a prestige TV series or low-budget indie sensation a la "The Brutalist", but it should be just solid 2 hours of entertainment provided by brilliant actors... acting.

The sudden joy of randomly finding a sleazy 90-ies thriller directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Tom Berenger, the great Bob Hoskins and Greta Scacchi that you have never ever previously heard about in your life!

If you are a horror fan, go out and support our brother James Wan who just spent all his "Aquaman" and "Furious 7" studio credit on one batshit insane horror flick like no other! It has it all - giallo and 80-ies slashers, 90-ies supernatural cop shows and much more plays like feature length non-mythological "The X-Files" episode, sans Mulder & Scully, but done on "The Conjuring" technical level. And, above all, it's just SO. MUCH. FUN! (especially if you get all the homages)

    Short version:
If UPGRADE were a slasher-horror, it would be MALIGNANT.

  • Escobar: Paradise Lost

    Escobar: Paradise Lost

    ★★★

Part biographical slice, part fictional romantic drama, neither in the end, as film unsuccessfully tries to interest us in Josh Hutchinson's story, when we really came for Benicio.

That leaves an angry overall impression, and not because the film is bad (it works, it fails, and, most importantly, it tries), but because now we are definetely robbed of proper Escobar biography with Benicio del Toro in the lead role, whose stuff in this film is brilliant - all twenty minutes of it.
