This looks stunning in its new 4K restoration. I always loved this movie and it's been one of my favorites since I was a teenager, but it had been over a decade since I last saw it. It was even better than I remembered.

The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
A Rube Goldberg machine of visual gags, whimsical adventure, and heartfelt tragedy, delivered through exquisitely timed editing, sumptuous staging and cinematography, and pitch perfect performances.
The portrayal of home grown fascism and the ultimate sacrifice paid to stand up to it on behalf of an immigrant brother hits different today. "There are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse once known as humanity. He was one of them."

Mufasa: The Lion King 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This movie totally lost me in the third act with its good guys/bad guys morality that makes no sense. Mufasa's plea to the other animals is, "help me defeat these other lions because after they kill me they'll kill you." But it's already established in the original movie that Mufasa and his family eat the other animals that live in the pride lands. So is Mufasa an evil populist who eventually turns on the masses that made him king, or are the filmmakers just hoping you won't think too hard about it?

Mickey 17 2025
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This script is a sloppy, lazy mess. It's full of interesting ideas and cool scenes and it squanders them in a third act full of loose ends, characterization non sequiturs, and baffling choices.
Not since Prometheus has a promising and enjoyable setup gone so bad in the 2nd half. Side characters and subplots are set up and then abandoned. The goodguys have plot armor and the bad guys make stupid choices, seemingly for no other reason than to make them…
