I watched a 3hr+ fan edit of the Blue Rose edit. I hadn’t seen Fire Walk with Me in nearly 20 years but so much of it was scorched into my memory. This completely overwhelmed me tonight. Sheryl Lee’s performance is one of the greatest I’ve ever seen.

Michelangelo Frammartino has accused traditional cinema of being manipulative in its use of musical score to provoke superficial, shallow emotional responses in the viewer. Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Once Upon a Time in Anatolia hinges on a series of fascinating conversations which range from seemingly mundane worries, casual philosophising, or petty bickering over yoghurt, all wonderfully written with awareness, compassion and restraint. I could've watched ten hours more of this brilliant film's first two acts (not that the third act wasn't great in its own way).
