The Comfort of Strangers 1990
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
“Put [perverts] up against the wall and shoot them. What society needs to do is purify itself.”
I’m actually really surprised to see so many people differentiate this movie from the ones Schrader writes himself because it supposedly lacks his usual exploration of masculinity in crisis because I feel like that’s the root issue here. Christopher Walken’s Robert has two preoccupations: one is with his father, and the other is with Rupert Everett’s Colin. The reason that creates conflict is…

Bad Lieutenant 1992
Harvey Keitel recently gave an interview that I think explained a lot of my issues with this movie. Fear City 1984
Hooptober 11 - 1/31
One film from 1984
"He's a male Caucasian, he used some kind of razor, and he appears to be familiar with martial arts. Other than that, we got a blank wall."

Queen of Blood 1966
Has a promising title it can’t live up to. Still a year out from Bonnie and Clyde’s major blow to Hollywood’s strait-laced production codes, there’s very little actual blood in the film, defaulting instead to stuffy sci-fi for most of the runtime. While long bouts of sitting and chewing the fat might not be particularly entertaining, it does offer an interesting look at America’s view on culture clashes at the time.
One of the major things the characters argue about…

The Breakfast Club 1985
While I was watching this, I couldn't help but imagine how I would react if I was in this situation. Would I make out with a guy who stuck his face under my skirt without my permission? Would I help the people who laughed at me when I told them I tried to kill myself? Would I want to be friends with someone who beat up another kid and blamed his actions on his dad? No. These are horrible people,…
