** Second time watching the longer version**
This has secured a place in my top 10 movies of all time — maybe top 5.
Putting this up against the theatrical version is one of the most poignant examples I can think of to demonstrate the impact of film editing; DC is just so much more impressive in terms of pacing, feel, and pure storytelling.I honestly might now believe that great editing is harder to achieve and more important than great cinematography. If you appreciate scale, world building, and a hint of world history, it doesn’t get much better than this.
A classic story of one man’s curiosity and willingness to become immersed in the culture of another people. Such stories have always struck a cord (chord?) with me (Dune, Lawrence of Arabia, Last Samurai), and as a result — I thoroughly enjoyed Dances with Wolves. Beautiful to look at and listen to. Ultimately a cathartic story that still manages to highlight the fucked up shit our government did to native peoples.
